On August 18, 2026, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners officially accepted $115,604 from the St. Johns County Parks Foundation to fully fund the replacement of the turf at the Field of Dreams at Aberdeen Park.
The Field of Dreams is an all-abilities baseball field designed specifically for athletes with disabilities. After years of use, the aging turf needed to be replaced to ensure athletes could continue enjoying a safe and accessible place to play.
Through the SJC Parks Foundation’s Step Up to the Plate campaign, individuals, businesses, community organizations and philanthropic partners came together to raise the funding needed for the project.
During its August 18 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners formally recognized and appropriated the Foundation’s contribution, allowing the County to move forward with the turf replacement.
“Reaching this campaign goal shows that our community wants to invest in better parks and is willing to do it through a trusted partner that can deliver,” said Marithza Ross, Executive Director of the St. Johns County Parks Foundation. “That’s why the Foundation exists, to bring everyone together and give them a direct way to enhance the public places they use and love.”
The Foundation is now awaiting the County’s installation schedule and looks forward to seeing athletes return to the Field of Dreams on their new turf.
