Building Friendships, One Step at a Time
The Saint Augustine Run Crew started with the simple desire to bring together people who share a love for running and staying active. "We wanted to create a space where runners of all levels could come together, support each other, and most importantly—have fun!" says the group’s founders Kes Sophanath, Jeremy Taylor, and Annie Cooksey. The mission is: "Designed to foster friendship & build community for all running levels." Whether you’re training for a 5K or gearing up for a marathon, this crew is all about uplifting each other while working toward those fitness goals.
Exploring St. Johns County with New Running Buddies
One of the biggest perks of being part of this group is how it enhances the runners' experience in St. Johns County’s because of its stunning views. Their runs routes often take them downtown by the Fort, through Anastasia State Park, or even toward the Vilano Bridge. So it’s not just about running—it's also about discovering the hidden gems in our own backyard and making those discoveries with others. "Running with a group adds an extra layer of motivation, and seeing the city from new routes always makes it more fun," says SARC.
Community, Support, and a Sense of Belonging
For the Saint Augustine Run Crew, they pride themselves for creating a welcoming space where everyone, no matter their skill level, feels supported. Running, after all, is a shared experience, whether you’re pushing through a tough mile or cruising to the finish line. The group’s focus on friendship and encouragement has led to some pretty amazing bonds. It’s this sense of camaraderie that keeps people coming back, knowing they’ll always have a team behind them.
A Memorable Event That Brought the Community Together
One of the crew's most memorable events was their Community Run, where they partnered with local gyms, yoga studios, and wellness groups, along with a sponsor from ON Running Shoes. The event was a huge success, giving participants the chance to demo the latest running shoes while enjoying a fun, supportive atmosphere. The crew plans to make this event an annual tradition, so keep an eye out in March for future opportunities to get involved.
"We love supporting other local running communities in Florida—there’s something so special about sharing ideas and making running an even better experience for everyone." -Saint Augustine Run Crew
How to Join the Saint Augustine Run Crew
If you’re looking to join in on the fun, it’s easy! The group runs every Wednesday at 6 PM and Saturday at 7 AM, meeting at Auggie’s Draft Room. They often switch up the routes, running along the Vilano Bridge or gathering for coffee at Alms + Fare, a local favorite that’s become a staple post-run hangout. "We’re so grateful for the support of local businesses like Auggie’s and Alms + Fare," says SARC. "They’ve really helped make this group feel like a true community."
