Kids Shine on Stage at First-Ever “Kids Got Talent” Event

The spotlight was on St. Johns County’s youngest stars as they took the stage at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center for the first-ever Kids Got Talent event! Organized by St. Johns County Parks & Recreation, this family-friendly talent showcase gave local children a platform to express themselves through music, dance, comedy, and other performing arts.

For many participants, this was their first time performing in front of an audience. Some admitted to feeling nervous, but by the end of their performances, their smiles said it all. “I was shaky even though I wasn’t nervous… but I liked it! It was fun,” one young performer shared.

Others discovered that the experience helped build their confidence and self-expression. “I felt a little nervous, but after I was done and saw my video, I thought—okay, I did pretty good.”

A Celebration of the Arts and Community

Parents watched proudly from the audience, cheering on their children as they bravely stepped into the spotlight. One parent shared the overwhelming pride they felt seeing their child on stage:

“My heart races so fast. I get goosebumps. I’m just full of pride and joy.”

The event highlighted the importance of performing arts in children’s lives, providing a creative outlet just as valuable as sports and outdoor activities. Having access to a facility like Solomon Calhoun Community Center, a 24,000-square-foot hub for recreation in West Augustine, ensures that kids have opportunities to explore their talents and build lifelong skills. “Performing arts is a big part of many kids’ lives. It’s great to have a place where they can do this,” another parent expressed.

A New Tradition in the Making

The success of Kids Got Talent has sparked excitement for the future. Families and participants are already looking forward to making this an annual event, celebrating the incredible creativity and passion of local youth. When asked if they had fun, one young participant responded enthusiastically, “Yes!”

With events like these, St. Johns County Parks & Recreation continues to foster a supportive, engaging, and creative environment for kids to grow, learn, and shine.
