With the fall sports season now complete, David Simpkins, St. Johns County Athletic Director, provided a thorough recap of the season's highlights at the December Recreation Advisory Board meeting.
The county's high school athletes have once again demonstrated exceptional talent, with multiple teams and individuals making significant strides at both the state and regional levels. From cross country to football, golf, and swimming, St. Johns County continues to solidify its reputation as a place for athletic excellence.
Here's a breakdown of the top performances across various sports during the 2023 fall season.
🏃Cross Country 🏃♀️
Boys Cross Country:
Creekside High School finished 6th at the state level, with Nease High School taking 8th. Individually, Creekside had a runner place 5th in their division, while a student from St. Augustine took 11th place.
Girls Cross Country:
🏈 Football
Ponte Vedra (5A): Reached the Regional Semi-Finals.
Beachside (5A): Advanced to the Regional Quarter-Finals.
Creekside (7A): Made it to the Regional Quarter-Finals.
Nease (6A): Reached the Regional Semi-Finals.
Pedro Menendez (3A): Advanced to the Regional Quarter-Finals.
St. Augustine (4A): Made it to the state semi-finals.

Girls Golf (3A Division):
Beachside finished 5th in the state. Ponte Vedra placed 11th, and Nease took 14th.
Boys Golf (3A Division): Ponte Vedra finished 3rd. Nease placed 11th.
🏐 Volleyball
Creekside (7A): Advanced to the Regional Quarter-Finals.
Beachside (5A): Reached the Regional Finals.

Girls Swimming (3A Division):
Ponte Vedra won the state championship. Nease placed 2nd, and Bartram Trail finished 5th. Beachside took 7th, and Creekside (4A) finished 5th.
Boys Swimming (3A Division):
Nease won the state championship. Bartram Trail finished 3rd, and Ponte Vedra placed 5th.
